Dan & Zigali PS Finish Third in Gijon CSI 5* Grand Prix
Dan and Zigali PS produced and tremendous effort to finish 3rd in the CSI 5* Grand Prix at Gijon. After another very impressive show, Dan and 'Ziggy' saved their best till last and showed what a fantastic partnership they are becoming in their first year together. After a very impressive clear in round one, Dan set about leader Andre Thieme riding Contanga and just failed to pull the leader back in a time of 55.04sec. That put Dan in a strong 2nd place with only a few to go but Simon Delestre riding Qlassic Bois Margot just pipped Dan for 2nd place.
Without doubt this shows Dan's undoubted mental strength, after things didn't quite go their way in the Nations Cup, to bounce back and continue to produced strong performances in world class shows. This partnership is clearly going places. "Absolutely thrilled" said Dan "I though 'Ziggy' jumped well in the Nations Cup but things didn't quite go our way. He came back so strong today and was in great form. His level of improvement this year has been fantastic and it was a great way to finish what has been a long week" added Dan.
Other notable performances from the show were an excellent third from 'Ziggy' in the big 1.50m class on day two, only just failing to catch winner David Will riding SIEC Carriere. Not to be outdone Varo M produced a very good display in the 1.55m class just clipping one pole in the jump off to finish in 9th place.
Dan & Zigali PS Selected for GB Gijon Nations Cup Team
Having caught the eye with some top class performances during 2013, Dan and Zigalli PS have been selected to represent GB at the Gijon CSIO5* show in late August. 'Ziggy' have been a revelation this summer and has taken every step up in class in his stride and fully deserves his chance to show what an improved horse he is.
"I'm delighted" said Dan "It's always an honour to represent your country and I'm particularly pleased that 'Ziggy' has caught the eye of the selectors and has shown he deserves a chance at this level. He's been great all this year and I'm confident he'll go well in Gijon" added Dan.
More International Success for Dan at Royan
Dan and Varo M were again in top form at the Royan CSI3* International show over the weekend 2nd - 4th Aug, winning the big 1.50m class in very impressive fashion from fellow British rider Jemma Kirk. Having finished a very good 8th place on day one, it was obvious Dan and 'Pele' were in excellent form. Being drawn first is normally a handicap in the big classes but Dan was having none of it and fairly blew away the rest of the field winning by over 5sec in a time of 72.91sec. Varo M has hit top form the last few weeks and is capable of winning the very biggest classes. In this form more success is on the cards. "Pele feels very close to his best at the moment" said Dan "He was very good on the first day and we just thought we'd try and set a very competitive time being drawn first in the big class. He got in a great rhythm and I just let him flow, I didn't think we'd win by such a wide margin!" added Dan
Zigali PS, who has been outstanding so far this year, had another very good show. After an nice pipe opener on day one, Dan and 'Ziggy' produced another excellent performance in the Grand Prix. Jumping a lovely clear in round one, Dan and 'Ziggy' looked as if they had a great chance to win, but 'Ziggy' just touched a rail in the jump-off and they had to settle for very good 4th place. "Another good show for 'Ziggy'. He's been great all year and as this is his first year at this level I really can't ask much more of him. He just keeps improving and has been very impressive."
To complete another great weekend for Aspen stables, Stacy and Chauvanist carried on their very impressive form in the CSI1* amateur classes. After a skip around on the first day to finish 2nd, Stacy and 'Vigo' easily won their class on day two, and to finish a fine weekend they saved their best for the last day winning the Amateur Grand Prix in very impressive fashion.
Stacy and Chauvanist have shown an amazing consistency this year and have already won many amateur classes, on this form they could well add many more.
