This month we have been busy with our training at home and preparing for our World Class Development Squad Session which was our first outing of the year.
Focusing on training at home we have had a couple of lessons a week with Grace Mew and worked on our accuracy of movements, as well as working on Fizz's straightness and excepting a little inside bend, which Fizz seems to have got the hang of.We have got a busy month ahead next month with our first two competitions of the season, a squad session and preparation for Moorsele CPEDI*** in Apri
The World Class Development Squad Session didn't get off to the best start as when we tried moving the trailer early Saturday morning, the brakes had seized on one side and from trying to release the brakes we ended up with a punctured tyre so ended up changing the tyre but an hour later managed to get on the road. Once on the road everything went to plan. It was a busy weekend and we even woke up to a covering of snow on the Sunday. Fizz worked well on both days, although a little tired on the Sunday after training and rider position analysis on the Saturday. We worked on Fizz bending slightly to the inside and allowing the outside a little so that she can bring the shoulder around when working on a circle. We included lots of transitions in our work to quicken Fizz's response to my aids as well as encouraging her to work more from behind. Overall I was pleased with Fizz, especially as she is now accepting more pressure in her training. We also had sessions with other World Class Development staff such as the equine nutritionist, dietician, rider analysis with our physio and strength & conditioning staff, sports psychology, coaches, vet and farrier. As well as feedback for our competition turnout which was assessed at the squad session in December. On the Saturday evening we also had an informative presentation with a member of staff from NAF.
