Horse diaries June - Midas and Angus
Keeping you up to date, behind the scenes with Equilibrium’s horses.
We care passionately about horses because we are owners and riders ourselves. Our horses are a big part of our daily lives and we would like to share with you, some of the trials and tribulations we face on a weekly basis with our horses – the good, bad & the ugly!
Meet Midas and Angus, owned by our Product Designer, Fiona Lawrence.
Tawna Midas – 5 year old Miniature Shetland gelding – Chestnut Dun
Wotknotts Angus – 8 year old Miniature Shetland gelding – Blue Roan
I have owned Midas for two and half years and have had Angus for six years and enjoy showing them with my daughter, Ellen, at local and County level.
Midas is a big strong pony with a very long, free stride, which is often commented on by the judge. He is well proportioned and has a huge mane which makes him look like lion! He is very kind and gentle, never pushy or aggressive.
Angus is a much finer pony, but still moves very well. He has a small he ad with small ears, which is a good characteristic of a miniature Shetland. He has a more forceful character than Midas, very much wants to be part of the action. I have lost count of the number of mugs he has broken in the yard, people will leave them on surfaces, just within his reach and he can’t help but nuzzle them and knock them off. He loves everyone and all the horses on the yard, the bigger the better!
To keep them in tip top show condition, they have Simply Sunshine daily, and when we have big shows planned with a lot of travelling, they also have Boost energy, to maintain their energy levels.
They also enjoy their munch blocks in the stable, particularly, Meadow and Hedgerow and as a special treat, a sprinkle of Simply Irresistible on their tea at night.
Last Friday we travelled from Cornwall to the Royal Bath and West show, where we were delighted that Midas won and Angus was fourth in the same class. This Friday we will be competing at the Royal Cornwall Show, so we have our fingers crossed.
