Maisie Hodge

Maisie and her two horses Garant H (Big G) and Coednewydd Beauty Star Albert (Bear) compete in British Dressage. Big G is a 6 year old 18hh KWPN gelding by Johnson who Maisie has owned since he was a 5 year old. Up until Maisie owned Big G he had done very little. Bear is a 12 year old Welsh Section D gelding, who has been owned by Maisie since he was 8 years old and had previously been at a racing yard and had participated in a lot of hunting.

Maisie’s Story

Big-G-collageI’ve been riding since I was 3 years old and had always wanted to be an Eventer, but after losing my confidence, in 2014 I turned to dressage. Bear (Coednewydd Beauty Star Albert) was the first pony I did dressage with. We bought him to event but he was too silly jumping so we started to do some dressage. He came straight from the hunting field so was a bit mad but after lots of practise we have achieved loads together and had great fun whilst doing so!

We have been selected for teams in BYRDS and Dressage U21’s and successfully competed in both, including riding for England at the Home International where we won as a team and we cam 3rd individually! I have trained him myself from Intro to training Pony FEI, competed all over the country at national level and although he has taken a backseat now, he still enjoys being ridden at home. My current horse is Garant H (Big G), is an 18.1 KWPN 6 year old grey gelding by Johnson who I have owned since November 2016. We were selected to ride at the British Dressage High Performance Camps 2016/17 and at home we are training with Emma Corbett and Matt Frost. We recently began competing at affiliated Elementary where he scored 72.6% and 71.1% in his first outing, finishing his regional qualification. We are training at home at Medium.

By invitation we are part of the U21’s FEI training squad to help prepare us to potentially compete internationally. This year we competed at Sheepgate U25’s Championships where he got great scores and placed all week. This was his first big show so we were thrilled with how he behaved and performed all week! In the future, I dream to compete for Great Britain and to create a career with horses. With Big G, I hope to compete to at least PSG and possibly go on to train Grand Prix. Several people have now said what potential they see in him to reach this level, so I’m very much hoping to achieve this! In the near future, I want to establish him with the changes so we can compete at Advanced Medium in 2018 where I aspire to qualify for Medium Regional’s and Advanced Medium Area Festivals. Currently we have qualified to ride at the Winter Regional’s at Elementary so we are training really hard to hopefully get through to the Nationals next year.

Why do you think you should be our next rising star?

I would love to be Equilibrium’s rising star because I think it would be amazing to have the support from such a renowned company. I think this opportunity would be incredible to help Big G and I to achieve our goals and ambitions. I would also be honoured to be part of promoting a brand like Equilibrium whose products myself and my horses both love and believe to be a great part of their well being. In addition I would like to help to inspire other people to realise their dreams, and with your company’s help I think we can.
