Sam made the decision to leave his home in Australia in 1995 to move to the UK to forge a career as an International Event Rider. He trained and worked as a back up rider for double Olympic gold medallist, Matt Ryan for three years, where he made the most of this fantastic opportunity to train and compete all levels of event horses. In 2004 Sam left Matt Ryan’s base and established his own team of event horses which have gone from strength to strength and has since been shortlisted for the Athens and Beijing Olympics, finished 5th in the HSBC Classics for 2009, was a member of the Australian team for both the 2010 World Equestrian Games in the USA and the London 2012 Olympics with his top horse Happy times and won the 2014 Badminton CCI**** on Paulank Brockagh.
Sam is currently ranked in the top 25 in the World Rider Rankings and is on the Australian Elite Squad with his sites firmly fixed on being part of the team for the 2014 World Equestrian Games in France.
Sam and his wife Lucy, who also competes at top level eventing, run the team together from their yard on the Dorset/Somerset border and welcomed their son Oliver into the world in January 2013.

What Sam has to Say About Equilibrium Products
You may have seen Sam and his team of talented horses modelling several products from the Tri-Zone range and it is through the use of Equilibrium’s products that Sam became a huge fan of these boots.
Sam commented “I’m delighted to be supported by such a professional company as Equilibrium. All their products are first-class and I know that when my horses wear their Tri-zone boots they’re receiving the best level of protection possible.”
” The boots have been fantastic – they really have been ‘put through their paces’ (excuse the pun!) with the large number of horses I have had out competing this year. The cross country boots are very sturdy and stay in place despite some of the incredibly wet ground conditions I have been riding in this year. The vented system allows the legs to ‘breathe’ and therefore keeping their legs cool which I believe has to be the way forward for the welfare of the horses. I have been equally pleased with the overreach boots – they are very solid, offering great protection and they do not twist around the foot as so many other boots can do. I have every confidence that the Tri-Zone boots will be comfortable and offer maximum protection for all my horses. “
“The Stretch & Flex bandages are great for working in at competitions before dressage. The coolspace liner means that the horses’ legs don’t get hot and they look really smart too.”
“At home, my horses wear Tri-Zone All Sports boots for everything from hacking to schooling to galloping. They are so lightweight, easy to use and really comfortable for the horses to wear without making their legs’ sweaty.”
