‘We are delighted to announce Cerys Withey as our Rising Star winner for January to March 2020. Cerys and her horses, Ryan and Brian, impressed us with their dedication, hard work and achievements. We are looking forwards to working with her, and seeing what amazing things they do this year.’
Cerys is an 18 year old show jumper who has been riding since she could walk. She competed in her first show at 11 years old on her nans 16.2hh horse because she was scared of their 13.2hh pony! Cerys got her first show jumping pony when she was 14. Cassie was a 9year old, but had very low mileage, having only ever jumped at 2 shows. After a lot of hard work they competed up to 1.10/15 together in the 2 years she had her. They qualified for 3 classes at Blue Chip (Discovery, Sapphire and Coral), competed in Newcomer second rounds & were placed almost every time they went out.
When Cerys got Brian it was a big transition for her and they had quite a few setbacks. Brian was completely different to her old pony, and they had quite a few bad falls, one being at the Blue Chip championships where Cerys broke her collarbone. These falls definitely knocked her confidence, and it took them a while to trust each other. Since then they have formed an amazing partnership. Some of their achievements over the past 2 years have been; qualifying for the bronze league semi-final, just missing out on HOYS, winning two 1.10 amateur classes at Hickstead, but their biggest achievement to date has got to be the D&H National Amateur Championships back in November. They won the 1.10 Grand Prix Qualifier on day one, then went on to come 2nd in the 1.15 GP qualifier! After a day off they jumped the second 1.10 GP qualifier, which they also won! Then to top it all off they jumped in the D&H 1.10 Grand Prix and also won that, meaning they are the first combination to ever complete the hat-trick and win both qualifiers and the final!
Cerys’ plan for Brian this year are to have as much fun as they can! Shows they have planned include; Hickstead, D&H Champs again, Chepstow International, Wellington International and Bolesworth international.
Her aims with Ryan (her young 4yo) for 2020 are to produce him slowly, get his confidence up, get him more experienced at different venues, and hopefully have him comfortably jumping 1.10’s at least by the end of the year. It all depends on how quickly he progresses as it’s all about taking your time. Cerys is extremely excited for his future and can’t wait to see what he can do. She is hoping he will be ready for 6yo classes next year.
Cerys is extremely hard working, positive, and always put her horse’s health and wellbeing above everything else! Her horse Brian does get stiff now as he is getting older, so she is a strong believer in doing everything she can to keep him feeling his best. Therefore, Cerys especially loves Equilibrium Therapy Products as she knows first-hand, how amazing the magnetic/massage therapy is and she would not know where I would be without it.
