Ever wondered how Magnetic Therapy works?
The body’s cells have electromagnetic properties which means they can be energised by a magnetic field. Magnetic Therapy encourages blood flow and increases cellular activity in the body however, magnets in themselves, do not heal. When a powerful magnet is placed against the body, cellular activity is increased, and this in turn increases the rate at which cells regenerate and repair.
How does Magnetic Therapy help horses?
Magnetic therapy can help to increase the rate of healing when treating inflammation, swelling, stiffness, muscle cramps and the symptoms of arthritis. Using magnetic therapy can help the horse recover more quickly from injury or a chronic condition.
Why does Equilibrium use Vitaflex® magnets?
Vitaflex® magnets present two alternating poles to the body, negative and positive, making them different to normal Neodymium magnets, which present only one pole. These strong, circular and permanent magnetic fields of alternating poles sequences penetrate deep into the body tissue keeping the cells in an active regenerating state.

FAQS
How do the magnets work?
A magnet has two poles, North and South. Opposite poles attract and conversely like poles repel. When a magnet is placed on the body, the magnetic properties in the body’s cells will either attract those that are opposite or repel those that are alike. In this way the activity of the cells is increased which in turn increases the rate at which the cells regenerate and repair.
Why does Equilibrium use Vitaflex® magnets?
Vitaflex® magnets present two alternating poles to the body, negative and positive, making them more effective as Neodymium magnets, which present only one pole. These strong, circular and permanent magnetic fields of alternating poles sequences penetrate deep into the body tissue keeping the cells in an active regenerating state.
Can I start using the products on my horse straight away?
Yes. Your horse is unlikely to have any adverse reactions to wearing magnets however, a very small minority can experience leg swelling. As with all new products you may like to try the products on your horse for a short time initially.
When should I not use magnetic products on my horse?
Do not apply Vitaflex® magnets on open wounds, bruises, areas of inflammations or following steroid injections. Reason: Magnetic fields dilate blood vessels and, hence, increase the flow of blood.
It is not advisable to use magnets on a horse with a heart murmur or in the first trimester of pregnancy for you or your horse! Note: People with heart pacemakers should not carry magnetic products.
What are the benefits of the Magnetic chaps?
The Magnetic Chaps can be worn on your horse in the stable to help reduce signs of splints and windgalls and the symptoms of arthritis. They are ideal for horses on box rest to increase blood flow in the leg and prevent swelling.
How long will the magnets last?
The magnets will not become less efficient over time. The magnetic properties in the Vitaflex® magnets will not diminish over time.
Can I wash the magnets?
The magnets themselves CANNOT be washed. The Magnetic Chaps and Magnetic Back Pad can be washed on a cool wash with a non-biological detergent. The magnets should be removed from the protective pockets prior to washing to avoid accidental damage to the washing machine.
How should the products be stored when not in use?
Avoid storing the magnets in a very cold place, ie: a tack room during winter as the magnets may lose their flexibility.
Can the Magnetic Chaps be worn for turnout?
The Magnetic Chaps should only be worn in the stable and not worn for turnout as the Chaps are not designed for outdoor use. Magnetic therapy works best when the horse is at rest as this is nature’s optimum time to repair and regenerate.
Can I use Magnetic Chaps when my horse has mud fever?
We advise waiting until your horses’ mud fever has cleared up before using Magnetic Chaps. This is because magnetic therapy should not be used on open wounds or if there is any risk of infection.
Can I put the magnetic stable chaps on wet legs?
For comfort reasons, we would recommend towel drying horses’ legs thoroughly before putting the Magnetic Chaps on.
Can I purchase replacement magnets?
Yes, replacement magnets can be purchased for both the Magnetic Back Pad and the Magnetic Chaps.

Really pleased with these , they are easy to put on as stay in place . Used them on my pony who had cold induced Laminitis , they keep her legs and hooves warm and have the added benefit of the magnets
Alex Bragg –
We use these on several horses for different reasons, such as they reduce filling in the legs or if they have had a knock you can move the magnets to target the area that you really want them to work on! Also you can put them on in the stable at night and take them off in the morning, making them easy to use and very efficient.
Jodi Mcdermott –
I originally got the Magnet Chaps for my older horse who suffers from stiffness when stabled over winter, but have also been using them on my mare. She had a suspensory ligament injury earlier in the year and was on and off lame with it. Since she has been back in work I decided to use the magnet chaps before riding. They are easy to use and I feel that they have been great for her recovery.
Hayley Ward –
Invaluable in keeping my old girl moving and free! She couldn’t be without them 👍
Lorna Kidson –
Before using the magnetic chaps I could not get Ruby’s puffy hind legs to improve. Ridden, rested, turned out, kept in, bandaged, hosed, none of it made any difference! However, just three days of wearing the magnetic chaps (whilst she is stabled during the day) has made a significant improvement and she has much less soft swelling. She will now continue to wear them as a preventative measure.
GB Olympic Event Rider, Tina Cook –
I started using Equilibrium Therapy magnetic chaps on a horse with a small lump on its leg which wasn’t responding to treatment. I was so pleased with the way the magnetic chaps reduced the lump that I now use them regularly on my horses overnight. They don’t slip or rub, have reduced leg swelling and helped the ones with sore shins.

Lucy Gray –
“I have been using your Magnetic Stable Chaps on my little cob for the last few days, due to the livery yards grazing requirements the horse are required to be kept in there stables every other day, for my pony who has arthritis he has been suffering quite bad however since using the magnetic boots i have already seen a difference! He is moving more freely and he is even happier in his mood, not forgetting that they look very comfortable!”
Chloé Jordan –
“We’re loving them! We are 2 months into a years box rest and for a horse who has legs that are prone to swelling they haven’t swelled ONCE. She has them on fronts for 12 hours then swap to back. They must really be encouraging blood flow.”
Lesley Broderick –
“Very pleased with the results of using these wraps. My horse would not offer one of her back legs for hoof picking out. After a week seems happy to do this”
Tina Cook Olympic Event Rider –
“The Equilibrium Therapy range has proven to be a safe, effective and labour saving way to treat my horses. It is now part of my daily routine” (EQUILIBRIUM THERAPY)
