Description
New Equilibrium Therapy Hind & Hock Magnetic Chaps
The new Hind & Hock Magnetic Therapy Chaps are soft magnetic stable chaps, ergonomically designed to fit horses’ hind legs.
Providing cover from hock to heel, the Hind & Hock Magnetic Chaps are ideal for horses that suffer with arthritis of the hock, or are prone to fluid filled legs in the stable. Supplied with magnets that can be placed around the lower parts of the hock, which is the common location for hock joint arthritis.
Equilibrium Therapy Hind & Hock Chaps can be worn in the stable overnight, or during the day to help horses that suffer from arthritis, or are recovering from injury by increasing blood flow, reduce filling, and promoting healing.
Ideal for horses with tendon problems, splints, navicular, bone chips, and general knocks, bumps and scars.
When to use Magnetic Chaps?
- For horses who suffer with arthritis
- When horses get fluid filled legs in the stable
- For horses who are recovering from tendon problems, splints, navicular, bone chips and general knocks and bumps
- When on box rest or stand in for long periods of time
- For horses in high levels of work to encourage repair
Ever wondered how Magnetic Therapy works?
The body’s cells have electromagnetic properties which means they can be energised by a magnetic field. Magnetic Therapy encourages blood flow and increases cellular activity in the body however, magnets in themselves, do not heal. When a powerful magnet is placed against the body, cellular activity is increased, and this in turn increases the rate at which cells regenerate and repair.
How does Magnetic Therapy help horses?
Magnetic therapy can help to increase the rate of healing when treating inflammation, swelling, stiffness, muscle cramps and the symptoms of arthritis. Using magnetic therapy can help the horse recover more quickly from injury or a chronic condition.
Why does Equilibrium use Vitaflex® magnets?
Vitaflex® magnets present two alternating poles to the body, negative and positive, making them different to normal Neodymium magnets, which present only one pole. These strong, circular and permanent magnetic fields of alternating poles sequences penetrate deep into the body tissue keeping the cells in an active regenerating state.

FAQs
How do the magnets work?
A magnet has two poles, North and South. Opposite poles attract and conversely like poles repel. When a magnet is placed on the body, the magnetic properties in the body’s cells will either attract those that are opposite or repel those that are alike. In this way the activity of the cells is increased which in turn increases the rate at which the cells regenerate and repair.
Why does Equilibrium use Vitaflex® magnets?
Vitaflex® magnets present two alternating poles to the body, negative and positive, making them more effective as Neodymium magnets, which present only one pole. These strong, circular and permanent magnetic fields of alternating poles sequences penetrate deep into the body tissue keeping the cells in an active regenerating state.
Can I start using the products on my horse straight away?
Yes. Your horse is unlikely to have any adverse reactions to wearing magnets however, a very small minority can experience leg swelling. As with all new products you may like to try the products on your horse for a short time initially.
When should I not use magnetic products on my horse?
Do not apply Vitaflex® magnets on open wounds, bruises, areas of inflammations or following steroid injections. Reason: Magnetic fields dilate blood vessels and, hence, increase the flow of blood.
It is not advisable to use magnets on a horse with a heart murmur or in the first trimester of pregnancy for you or your horse! Note: People with heart pacemakers should not carry magnetic products.
What are the benefits of the Magnetic chaps?
The Magnetic Chaps can be worn on your horse in the stable to help reduce signs of splints and windgalls and the symptoms of arthritis. They are ideal for horses on box rest to increase blood flow in the leg and prevent swelling.
How long will the magnets last?
The magnets will not become less efficient over time. The magnetic properties in the Vitaflex® magnets will not diminish over time.
Can I wash the magnets?
The magnets themselves CANNOT be washed. The Magnetic Chaps and Magnetic Back Pad can be washed on a cool wash with a non-biological detergent. The magnets should be removed from the protective pockets prior to washing to avoid accidental damage to the washing machine.
How should the products be stored when not in use?
Avoid storing the magnets in a very cold place, ie: a tack room during winter as the magnets may lose their flexibility.
Can the Magnetic Chaps be worn for turnout?
The Magnetic Chaps should only be worn in the stable and not worn for turnout as the Chaps are not designed for outdoor use. Magnetic therapy works best when the horse is at rest as this is nature’s optimum time to repair and regenerate.
Can I use Magnetic Chaps when my horse has mud fever?
We advise waiting until your horses’ mud fever has cleared up before using Magnetic Chaps. This is because magnetic therapy should not be used on open wounds or if there is any risk of infection.
Can I put the magnetic stable chaps on wet legs?
For comfort reasons, we would recommend towel drying horses’ legs thoroughly before putting the Magnetic Chaps on.
Can I purchase replacement magnets?
Yes, replacement magnets can be purchased for both the Magnetic Back Pad and the Magnetic Chaps.

We use these on several horses for different reasons, such as they reduce filling in the legs or if they have had a knock you can move the magnets to target the area that you really want them to work on! Also you can put them on in the stable at night and take them off in the morning, making them easy to use and very efficient.

I started to use these chaps on my horse at the end of Nov 2018 – he has KS, arthritic changes in his hocks and his hind legs fill over night…. or they did! Not any more…. and he is moving forward in leaps and bounds with his flatwork getting stronger over his hocks day by day. He is starting to look like an uphill horse 😊.
I obviously can’t say all of this is down to the chaps – I’d like to think my schooling helps too 😁 but they definately have made a difference and compliment our regime meaning he is going 6 to 8 mths between hock treatments and over 12 mths between back injections. So a big thumbs up from me – and they stay up and are strong even after washing
Sue and Izzey –
I had investigated hock boots to help my horse Izzey with his arthritic hocks but couldn’t find anything that I thought would be suitable. Most of the reviews spoke about slipping. Then I saw that Equilibrium were going to be selling hock boots which seemed to be an extension of the magnetic chaps. They wouldn’t have the problem of slipping. I ordered a pair and they arrived in December. Izzey had worn them since then and his progress is noticeable.
My vet returned the week before Christmas and gave me one of the best Christmas presents ever. She signed him off and said I could start trotting around corners and even canter if I wanted. She mentioned competitions as well. WHOOPI. I decided not to push too quickly and probably will wait another month before I start cantering.
I have started planning shows. Maybe an in hand class in March and maybe an Intro class in April. The future is so promising and my lovely 23 year old pony is full of life, sound and raring to go – with or without me.
