What inspired the Riding Mask for horses?
Timmy, who if you haven’t heard of him before, is the reason behind Equilibrium Products. He was a very sensitive soul who started shaking his head as a youngster. This led to the development of many products, including the Muzzle Net, Field Relief Max and finally, the Riding Mask. While the Muzzle Net gave him much needed relief, paired with the Riding Mask it was an even better solution!
What is the material used within this ride on fly mask?
Two types of mesh are used within the Riding Mask. There is a softer one, which goes over your horses’ ears to keep them protected but comfortable. And then a slightly firmer PVC mesh over the face, giving it structure to stay away from your horses’ eyes and eyelashes. This mesh also provides over 65% UV protection for those horses who are sensitive to sunlight.

How do I care for the Riding Mask?

The Net Relief Muzzle Net is one of the most effective products on the market to help alleviate the symptoms of headshaking. Massage Pad Testing The Equilibrium Massage Pad was independently tested by Myerscough College and the findings showed: Increased Flexibility Results showed an overall improvement in back flexibility of approximately 46%. Stride Length The stride length of the treated horses increased over the period of the test by 12cms, whereas the control group showed little improvement. Promoting Relaxation Using a heart rate monitor, horses wearing the Equilibrium Massage Pad showed a decrease in heart rate when compared to the horses in the control group. Heat is a non-invasive, gentle, and generally a well-accepted form of therapy with many associated benefits. However, it is important that heat is delivered at the correct temperature, and for an appropriate amount of time to achieve the desired effects. If temperatures are not high enough, there is unlikely to be any significant effect to the tissue. If temperatures are too high, or are left in position too long, then tissue damage may occur. Heat Sensor Technology Our Heatsense Pad has therefore been thoroughly tested to ensure the heat is delivered in accordance with supporting research. A range of sources determined the following necessities for the Massage Pad Heatsense. - Heat is delivered between 40-45 degrees Celsius. - The target temperature is maintained for 15 minutes. - The heat should never exceed 45 degrees Celsius for an extended period of time. Due to the risks associated with heat, and the narrow target window for therapeutic heat, we developed an intelligent monitoring system that is constantly checking the temperature being delivered to the horse. This adjusts accordingly to ensure a repeatable session is experienced each time the pad is used. This is especially important in a product that is strapped to the horse, that they cannot easily move away from. As the temperature reaches the target of 42 degrees Celsius power to the heat pads will cut out. As the temperature drops again, power to the heat pads will resume. This process continues to ensure the horse receives 15 minutes at the target temperature. This monitoring system will also help prevent the pad heating tissue that is already hot, whether that is due to ambient temperatures, or if the horse has just been exercised. The left and right side of the pad also work independently of each other, meaning one side could be receiving heat, even if the other is too warm.

The inspiration behind the Field Relief Horse Fly Rug

We had a few requirements we wanted to address with the Field Relief Fly Rug. First and foremost was comfort. As a rug your horse wears for long periods of time and moves around in all day (and potentially all night), we wanted a rug that would fit from ears to tail for full protection, allow your horse to move and keep them cool. Features like our unique shoulder shaping, as well as our wither relief panel and anti-rub lining, offers space and allows your horse to move with ease.

Secondly, we tested several colours and patterns to see which one flies liked landing on the least! The monochrome hexagonal print had less than half the amount of fly landings when compared to other plain and coloured rugs*, and therefore influenced our design.

What is it made of?

The rug is made up of different panels to allow relief and ease of movement through the high movement areas, as well as those at risk of rubbing.

A quick dry, silky panel lines the top of the neck allows a snug fit for protection against flies while preventing against rubbing. The use of a separate Lycra panel also eliminates the need for a silky satin lining inside the fly rug mesh, offering a more breathable option with less material.

This neck panel then feeds down to the wither relief panel which is designed so there are no seems on the sensitive and prominent wither area.

Going down from this is our unique shoulder relief shaping, made with extra material to allow your horses shoulder to move without restriction.

The mesh of the rug is designed to be closed enough to restrict biting insects, but open enough to keep the horse cool when the temperatures are warmer. Finally, the material protects against the sun’s harmful rays, offering 77% UVA and 90% UVB protection.

Our aim was to determine which fabric print or colour choice had the least amount of fly landings. While this testing was conducted by ourselves in the development stage of the fly rug product, our test method was based on a combination of the methods used by the professors from the University of Bristol and other previous studies that investigated fly landings on cattle.

We tested a total of 6 different fabrics of identical size and created baited ‘landing zones’ for flies. We recorded these zones for a total of 6 hours, before repeating this on 3 separate occasions and an average was taken from this. 

 The results showed that our monochrome hexagonal design had significantly fewer landings than most other compared prints and colours.

The inspiration behind the Midi fly mask without ears.

Sunglasses. These simple products that shield our own eyes are the design inspiration behind our Midi fly masks. They don’t cover too much of the face, they provide protection from the sun (and flies too in our horse’s case!), and they need to be comfortable otherwise you might get a headache!

The fly mask is designed with 2 different types of mesh. There is one which acts as the visor over the eyes and face. What is the inspiration behind the Stretch & Flex Wraps?

A horse called Timmy was the inspiration behind these innovative support wraps. Timmy had extremely sensitive skin, which were rubbed by other boots. He needed something soft and comfortable, but also something suitable to keep his legs protected, cool and allow him to move freely when dressage training. As a result, the Stretch & Flex Wraps were born!

What are the materials used in the Stretch & Flex Wraps?

Stomatex: Originally developed for human athletes, Stomatex® was designed to provide four-way stretch, to enable use around mobile joints, and an outstanding ability to keep the skin dry. It is commonly used in the manufacture of heat acclimatisation suits, padding for wheelchairs, special wetsuits and sports injury support bandages. The material mimics the way a leaf ‘breathes’, which allows the horses leg to stay cool and maintains an ideal skin temperature over an extended period of time. The way the material works is by efficiently moving trapped vapour molecules from beneath the fabric by the flexing action of minute dome shaped chambers which contain a tiny pore in the centre. This also gives it it’s unique appearance.
Automotive Grade Cushioning Spacer Mesh: This mesh is strategically placed over the inside of the cannon bone for extra protection. The spacer fabric has an additional jersey fabric on the inside of the boot to create an even softer lining against your horses’ leg. How the Quick Chill Rug works:

Designed with your horses’ wellbeing in mind, the Quick Chill rug provides a refreshing cooling effect without the need for traditional soaking.

Here’s a breakdown of how the Quick Chill rug works:

1. Specialised Material

The rug is made from a high tech, breathable open cell structure material, which is designed to effectively absorb and store water. This material has been chosen for its ability to retain water, but also to allow the water molecules to move through the fabric easily.

The rug should be fully submerged in a bucket of water, or thoroughly soaked. Once removed from the bucket, wring out the excess water and place onto the horse. The water stored within the fabric is essential for the cooling process, but due to it being held within the fabric, it will stop your horse from getting soaking wet when used for up to 10 minutes.

2. Heat transfer, evaporative cooling and breathability.

Your horse will be warmer than the rug, and so the thermal energy will move via conduction from the hottest place (the horse) to the cooler place (the rug) to equalise temperatures. The water from the rug also evaporates into the atmosphere to further aid cooling, similar to what happens when your horse sweats to naturally attempt to cool themselves down.

The cooling area of the rug is contoured and shaped so that it covers the large muscle groups across the back and hindquarters with direct contact, and the remainder of the rug is mesh to allow it to remain lightweight for use in the summer, but also to remain well-ventilated to facilitate breathability and evaporation to further aid the cooling process.

This process helps regulate the horses body temperature while providing a cooling sensation without soaking the horse. The rug can be reactivated as many times as it is needed by re-soaking it in water, making it an environmentally friendly solution to keep horses cool in warm conditions.

What inspired the Tri-Zone All Sports Boots?
Brushing boots are traditionally used across all disciplines. However, in general, they tend to only provide protection from brushing and are made from a non-breathable neoprene. Equilibrium wanted to create something that could truly be used for any activity, with all round protection. Alongside this protection, Equilibrium wanted to ensure maximum comfort for the horse, as well as taking into account leg health. Therefore, the super lightweight, breathable, flexible, and protective boot known as All Sports Boots was born!

The boot design uses a four-layer system, each chosen for their unique properties.
The first layer is providing an inner lining that sits against the horses' leg. Made from perforated EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate), the liner sits comfortably against the leg. The perforations allow heat to escape and aids breathability, while the flexibility of the material allows it to mould to the horses' leg.
Layer two is a strong nylon mesh. This adds another layer of protection to the sports boots, but also stops any debris making its way into the boot towards your horses' leg.
Layer three is the internal guard made from vinyl - a strong, durable and moisture resistant material. This layer is placed over the vulnerable tendon area and is made with strips of material to allow it to mould around the horses leg. This allows the horse to move freely without the feeling of a ‘splint’.
Lastly, the outer layer is an EVA waffle. Commonly used in the soles of human shoes and as padding on sports equipment, this material is durable, breathable, and protective! We’ve made sure it's easy to clean and maintain too!

What is the inspiration behind the Impact Sports Boot?

There are so many things to consider when purchasing horse boots, that we wanted to offer a boot where you didn't have to compromise at all. Generally if you go for a hard shell/very protective boot, it can be heavy, inflexible and unbreathable. Likewise, a lightweight boot might be more breathable and flexible, but won't offer the protection that is needed. The Impact Sports Boots offers protection that is tested to withstand overreaching, hitting a cross country fence, etc, yet still retains all the other desired features to keep your horse comfortable and their legs in good shape!

The boot design uses a five-layer system, each chosen for their unique properties

The first layer is provides a inner lining that sits against the horses' leg. Made from perforated EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate), the liner sits comfortably against the leg. The perforations allow heat to escape and aids breathability, while the flexibility of the material allows it to mould to the horses' leg.

Layer two is a strong nylon mesh. This adds another layer of protection to the sports boots, but also stops any debris making its way into the boot towards your horses' leg.

Layer three is the internal guard made from vinyl - a string, durable and moisture resistant material. This layer is placed over the vulnerable tendon area and is made with strips of material to allow it to mould around the horses leg. This allows the horse to move freely without the feeling of a ‘splint’.

The fourth layer is a EVA waffle. Commonly used in the soles of human shoes and as padding on sports equipment, this material is durable, breathable, and protective! We’ve made sure it's easy to clean and maintain too!

Finally, layer five includes strategically placed vinyl strike guards. On the front boot, these are placed down the vulnerable tendon area, as well as at the front of the boot. On the hind boot, they cover the vast majority of the inside of the horses' leg.

Sunglasses. These simple products that shield our own eyes are the design inspiration behind our Midi fly masks. They don’t cover too much of the face, they provide protection from the sun (and flies too in our horse’s case!), and they need to be comfortable otherwise you might get a headache!

Designed to fit a wide range of horses and ponies, the Midi Fly Mask was made with comfort in mind. After all, horses wear their fly masks for hours at a time!
The fly mask is designed with 2 different types of mesh. There is one which acts as the visor over the eyes and face. This mesh is thicker than the other to give it rigidity and structure to stay away from the sensitive structures on your horses’ face. This mesh also offers over 70% UV protection against the sun’s rays.
The second mesh is a softer, elasticated one which sits around the jaw and over the ears and poll. We wanted something comfortable for the horse, but also something close fitting so that the pesky flies couldn’t get underneath the mask.

What is in vitamunch**?
Not just a simple fibre block, vitamunch fibre blocks are made from dried timothy hay and are also fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, while containing tasty herbs naturally sought by horses in the field:
Dandelion – rich in potassium, magnesium and vitamin A.
Nettles - known for their effect on the circulation, a source of vitamin C and iron.

Who is it for?
All horses can enjoy a vitamunch meadow fibre block due to its high fibre and low sugar content, including those prone to laminitis. It is particularly useful:

Ways to feed vitamunch hay blocks.
There is no right or wrong way, it’s whatever works for your horse.
As it’s so tasty, most horses are keen to try gobble it down. Feeding vitamunch in a specialised munch net can help slow down those eager feeders. You can also place it in the middle of their normal haynet, so they spend time trying to hunt down the tasty treat!
For oldies whose teeth don’t quite do as well as they used to, or all horses in the winter, soaking the munch block will see it evolve into a warm, tasty bowl full of delicious goodness, right in front of your eyes!
It can of course be fed in the field or stable on its own on the ground or in a bowl. The highly compressed nature of the block will naturally slow eating down and act as a boredom breaker too!

Attach anywhere in the lining of the Equilibrium® Magnetic Chaps, Hind & Hock Magnetic Chaps or Magnetic Rug allowing you to target exactly where your horse needs it.

With so many uses, these Hot and Cold packs are great to:
• Use Cold Therapy for strains, sprains, bumps, bruises, and post exercise.
• Use Hot Therapy for relaxation, muscle spasm, joint stiffness and to warm up prior to exercise.
• Use Combined Therapy for muscle tension or discomfort.
Contains 2 x Hot/Cold Packs and Pouches.
How to Use:
Place the gel pack into the provided pouch and keep it in the pouch when in use – only remove it when the pouch needs cleaning. Never place the gel pack directly onto the horse.
Cold
Freeze the gel pack in its pouch for a minimum of 60 minutes. The pack can be stored in the freezer until it is needed. The pack will quickly become flexible after being taken out of the freezer. Apply where required for a minimum of 10 minutes. DO NOT use cold prior to exercise.
Hot
Place the gel pack inside the pouch provided and lay flat in the microwave on a high setting for 15-20 seconds only. If the desired temperature is not met, increase the time by 5 second increments. Make sure the pouch is never over heated. If the gel pack is frozen, the heating time may need to be increased. Leave to stand for a minute and ensure the temperature is comfortable before use. Apply for 20 minutes.
Combined
Alternate between cold and hot packs for 10 minutes each for 3 cycles.

• Do not use on open wounds/broken skin.

• Do not use heat on a new injury (the first 48 hours).
