Trevor Breen won yesterdays Equestrian.com Derby by just two hundredths of a second riding one-eyed wonder Adventure de Kannan owned by Karen Swann. Trevor took the title from reigning champion Phillip Miller ridingCaritiar Z in the jump off beating his time by just two hundredths of a second.
After an exciting first round with no clear rounds, Trevor and Phillip on four faults each had to jump off to see if Phillip would remain the champion or if Trevor would finally add a Derby win to his string of successes after coming second in 2012 and third in 2013.
Phillip and Caritiar Z had a pole down at the infamous Devil’s Dyke and finished on a time of 85.19sec setting the score to be beaten. Trevor also had a fence down at the Privet Hedge Oxer so had to jump clear for the rest of the round as well as coming in under Phillip’s time which ended up being the closest jump off time in the Derby’s history with Trevor and Addy competing the course in 85.17secs.
This was a particularly emotional win for Trevor as Adventure de Kannan had to have an eye removed last year and bounced back to win at The South of England County Show 2013 and came third at the Hickstead Derby 2013. Breen said of Addy ‘he is a true warrior of a horse’.
Trevor also had a 6th place result with Loughnatousa W B.
