Mr J is World Class! Read Emily Ham's latest blog

Equilibrium supported rider, Emily Ham Carriage Driver shares her latest blog with us……

My exciting news is that I represented Wales as an individual and on the team at the inaugural World Championships for Scurry & Trials, held at Sandringham on 12-14 September.

I am very proud of my pony Mr J who has had a quiet summer while I have been busy working on my MSc exams and thesis. His work out has been loose schooling at home with just a few sessions in the carriage in the days before the event. He drove three superfast clear rounds with absolutely no hesitation at the unfamiliar hoops and water tray to come 5th in the single pony class. We were also 6th overall when all the classes were scored together including the fast pony pairs. With 28 World class competitors and our lack of time for practice I was thrilled! The Welsh Team were 6th out of 8 nations ahead of Australia and Ireland so Mr J did extremely well.

Everyone complimented him on his performance and for his action in the parade ceremonies where he really did adopt a “look at me I’m magnificent!” way of going as we proudly carried the Welsh dragon flag.

This was the occasion for the unveiling of my new carriage the Revolution which has been hand built for me by talented engineer Simon Willis. It has amazing innovative new design features and is the carriage I hope to take on to excel at advanced pony classes in National and International driving trials. It has been especially designed to swap easily between Alfie my Section D and Mr J who is a smaller pony. Simon backstepped it for me at the World Scurry and Trials Championships – its first time behind my pony – and being a perfectionist has a few small modifications he wants to make before we start the winter indoor series later this month with both ponies.
