Sam Griffiths, part of team Equilibrium, rides his Badminton winning horse to great success around tough WEG course

Australian rider Sam Griffiths riding Paulank Brockagh, the 11 year old mare owned by Mr & Mrs S Posford, Mrs J Carter and Sam who were the winners of this year’s Badminton CCI****finished in 17th place in the Eventing at this year’s World Equestrian Games.

Adding only time faults across country to his dressage score of 53.3 Sam told Eventing Australia that the course was ‘a real endurance test out there for them, and that’s taking a minute off the course’ and that he ‘almost threw my watch out the door and just let her canter at the pace she wanted to canter’ due to the toughness of the course. Sam and Brocks were the first combination to jump clear.

Sam finished the competition on a final score of 75.7 after having an unlucky pole down in the Showjumping, with The Australian team securing their place at Rio finishing in fifth place.

Sam posted his delight on his facebook this morning ‘So so pleased with my amazing girl Brocks- she just gets better and better- was over the moon with how she jumped in that incredible stadium. A great team to be a part of and 5th place means we’ve well and truly qualified for Rio- v exciting!!’

Well done to Sam and Brocks!
